North America Beaches Women Island (Mexico)

In the southeast of Mexico, on the Caribbean sea, 13 km from Cancun, is Isla Mujeres, a picturesque spot where the tropical jungle, the Mayan legacy and the beauty of Caribbean beaches intertwine.

The Spanish called it Isla Mujeres (Women´s Island) because when they discovered it, they found objects in the shape of women, which were supposed to be offers to the godess Ixchel. One of the best beaches there is North Beach, with fine white sand and crystal water which will make your holiday unforgettable. It is one kilometre far from the centre and has moderate waves. On the other extreme of the beach is Punta Sur, an incredible place with the temple where the godess Ixchel was worshipped by the Mayans.
Another very beautiful beach to lie in the sun and enjoy both relaxation and watersports, is Paraìso beach. In the south of the island is Lancheros beach, where the water is turquoise and the fine golden sand is a real pleasure.


There is accommodation suitable for all tastes and needs, excellent hotels, hostels, apartments at reasonable prices, as well as luxurious ones.

The greatest entertainment here is playing and swimming with dolphins and turtles, or sail a boat, or discover the coral landscapes while you are doing snorkellling or diving. And if you are brave enough, go and discover the Cruz de la Bahía(Bahia Cross), a submerged structure which attracts lots of divers to see this marvel located on an excellent beach for diving.
You can get on the boats and hire a tour of the island ´s surroundings or cycle around or ride a motorbike. You must also visit El Garrafón Park, where you can practise sea trekking, kayaking, snorkellling or see the beautiful archaeological sites.


If you are driving your car, you can cross by ferry from Juarez Port, in 20 minutes or from Punta Sam, in 45 minutes. As on most of the best beaches in the zone, the climate is tropical with an average temperature of about 28º.
